I want to thank the kind person who gifted me with a virtual footlong hot dog. Your timing couldn't have been better. I lost my job this week. I guess I'll be needing all the free food I can get! LOL
7th-Jul-2010 01:39 pm - Why, George Clooney, why?
If George Clooney, et al, were going to put together a television series and set it in a specific American city, why would they not go the extra mile and purchase a $4.00 street map of that city so as not to make up names of very big downtown streets? If you're going to show a character standing on top of a building and threatening to jump and a cop says to him, Don't do it because you'll just go splat in the middle of _______, you could consult your map and see that the very big downtown street is called MAIN STREET, not FIRST AVENUE!!!!!

I didn't think "Memphis Beat" was much good, since every character on it is a Southern cliche and every episode is filled with actors who couldn't feign a decent-sounding Southern accent if their grandmothers' very lives depended on it, but now I recognize the show as being total crap, and I'm not watching it any more.

This merely got on my last nerve.
28th-Apr-2010 10:02 pm - U.S. States I've visited
Thanks to Petzipellepingo on this.

My aunt and uncle were very proud of visiting their 48th state in 1957 (no Alaska and Hawaii then).

Kansas, North Dakota and South Carolina look so lonesome on my map. I need to re-double my efforts.

visited 36 states (72%)

The happiest of birthday wishes to mary5958, author of the amazing "Journeys", still one of the all-time best.

Your result for The Improved Book Character-Savvy Test...

Hey, you! Cool dude!

You scored 95% Best Seller, 78% Classic and 67% Fantasy/Sci-Fi!

You're on the right track. William Faulker once said, "The artist is of no importance. Only what he creates is important, since there is nothing new to be said. Shakespeare, Balzac, Homer have all written about the same things, and if they had lived one thousand or two thousand years longer, the publishers wouldn't have needed anyone since." Which means you've been spending (not wasting, merely spending) your time reading authors that are saying the same things stated by the great classics. Try them. Classics don't bite. And Fantasy and Sci-Fi are goooooood.

Your rank: The Puzzle Dog (In a Hitchcock pose or something...)

And, in addition, a very happy birthday to Slaymesoftly, whose writing has given me hours of enjoyable reading and whose love of (correct) language does much to improve the quality of the stories of everyone who reads and heeds her Doozies!

Thank you to the kind and anonymous person who sent me the virtual snowflake cookie. It's lovely! Here's hoping it's the only snowflake I see this winter, but we have snow predicted for the end of the week.
Thanks again, kind person.
